The Chief Building Inspector will work collaboratively with contractors, engineers, architects, staff, and the public to ensure compliance with county, state, and federal building codes and zoning regulations. The ideal candidate is a motivated and solution-oriented leader with significant experience in construction inspection and regulatory compliance. Key qualities include:
- Proven supervisory or administrative experience in construction or building safety.
- Strong understanding of building codes, permitting procedures, and zoning ordinances.
- Effective communicator who builds trust with colleagues, stakeholders, and the public.
- Able to make sound, impartial decisions under pressure.
- Willing to conduct inspections and oversee staff in both office and field settings, including rural or remote areas.
- Bachelors degree in construction engineering, architecture, or a related field.
- Five (5) years of experience in construction or performing building inspections with a strong understanding of code compliance.
- Three (3) years in a supervisory or administrative role, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills.
- Familiarity with modern building construction methods, materials, and tools.
- In-depth understanding of state and county building codes and ordinances.
- Ability to analyze plans and conduct field inspections, including for complex or problematic sites.
- Current International Code Council (ICC) certifications including Plans Examiner designation, or ability to obtain within 24 months.
- Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license throughout employment.
