Highway Maintenance Worker - Small Equipment Operator (61034457)

Operates power hand tools, drills, auger, and chain saws in maintenance operations. Assists in repairing, replacing, and installing signs, using manual labor dig holes and drive posts, etc. Assists with the placement of traffic control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone. Picks up litter, debris, and dead animals. Assists in the placement of detour and road closure signs. Operates standard dump trucks with snow plow attachments and spreader to remove snow and ice from highway and bridges during emergency and/or inclement weather operations. Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, may include extended hours and/or 12 hour shifts.
There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operators license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work hours outside the normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental related emergencies.
