Summary: To perform a variety of skilled duties in the painting of interiors and exteriors of new or existing buildings, furniture and equipment.

Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)

Prepare new and previously painted surfaces for painting, staining, varnishing and finishing by water blasting, stripping, sanding, patching, puttying, priming and cleaning.

Apply paint, stains, varnishes, lacquers and other protective and decorative coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.

Paint a variety of structures and equipment including exterior and interior building surfaces, floors, furniture, equipment.

Operate a variety of machines including spray guns, air compressors, pressure washers, texture machines, sand blasters, disk sanders and taping machines.

Erect scaffolding and rigging; spread drop cloths where necessary.

Remove graffiti using water and various chemicals.

Mix paint and match colors; clean brushes and other tools and materials.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Perform "quality" control inspections of contracted services.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Minimum:

High School diploma or ability to obtain GED in one year

Two years of responsible painting experience.

Desirable:

Trade School and/or Community College Painting Courses.

Work experience residential, industrial and commercial environments

Licensing / Certification Requirements: Valid Driver's License

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

Knowledge of basic methods, materials tools and equipment used in the painting trade.

Knowledge of proper use and care of painting tools and equipment.

Knowledge of safe and approved methods used in the disposal of paints and chemicals contacted in the course of the day.

Knowledge of techniques used in blending and matching colors.

Knowledge of safe work practices

Knowledge of pressure washing equipment and practices

Ability to Perform skilled painting work involved in the repair, remodeling, of buildings, furniture and equipment.

Ability to operate and maintain a variety of painting tools and equipment.

Ability to skillfully blend and match paint and stain colors.

Ability to work in confined spaces and from typical school site building heights.

Ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual labor.

Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Ability to select and apply the correct coatings and associated products

Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties, and responsibilities

Ability to operate assigned equipment and vehicles

Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job function

Ability to work overtime when conditions warrant and directed by management

Ability to deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism

Ability to speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally.

Physical Requirements:

Required to use these types of skills most (5-8hrs) of a normal work shift: climbing/balancing; crawling/kneeling; walking; standing; bending/stooping; lifting/carrying; grasping/twisting; reaching; and pushing/pulling.

Rarely(2 to 4 hrs./shift) sitting and fingering/typing as well as handle/work with biohazards or risks for potential job-related injury, rarely coming in contact with hazardous materials; There is regular and frequent exposure to one or more disagreeable work and/or climate conditions, such as a hot, wet, stormy, dusty or noisy immediate work area.
