Engineering Technician I - Water Resources

Performs basic skilled technical work performing a variety of engineering assistance tasks; does related work as required. Work is performed under moderate supervision.

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.

Performing field and office engineering work; assisting with field survey work; entering data into computer system; operating automated drafting equipment; maintaining records and files.

Drafts plans related to utility systems for new construction, maintenance, and repairs for residential, commercial, and industrial customers; prepares drawing and material list.

Creates and updates maps using AutoCAD and ArcMap; updates GIS with new utility lines and associated features.

Assists in performing field checks for availability of utility services and territorial considerations.

Helps to maintain and prints out utility system maps.

Assists in the field with survey work.

Develops and maintains records, engineering plans, and files.

Answers a variety of questions from the general public and associates.

Performs related tasks as required.

Some knowledge of surveying and civil engineering practices, procedures, and techniques; some knowledge of engineering maps and records; some knowledge of mathematics and trigonometry as applied to engineering calculations; ability to operate standard office, word processing, and data entry equipment; minimum skill in the use of AutoCAD programs and ArcMAP editing capability; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in engineering technology or related field and minimal surveying and engineering experience.

Possession of an appropriate drivers license valid in the State of North Carolina
