Herzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking an experienced Bridge Inspector in Rancho Cucamonga, CA to join our team.
The pay rate for this position is $48.15 per hour.
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Perform routine and detailed inspections of railroad bridges, culverts, and tunnels to assess their condition and safety.
- Prepare comprehensive inspection reports detailing findings, including photographs, measurements, and recommendations for repairs or maintenance
- Continued development of our team members through field interaction and OJT.
- Generate the weekly work plan and schedule.
- Conduct field inspections in various weather conditions and terrains, including access to hard-to-reach areas using ladders, scaffolding, or aerial lifts.
- Respond to emergency situations involving bridge failures or accidents, conducting initial assessments and coordinating with emergency response teams.
- Communicate with the public and stakeholders regarding bridge conditions and maintenance activities as needed.
- Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience or equivalent combination of education and experience as follows:
- Three to five years in a Class 1 railroad or a commuter railroad system to include:
- Performance of railroad bridge inspection, maintenance, coordinating and assisting with maintenance of railroad tracks and structures.
- Ability to read and understand schematics, prints and technical specifications, rules, and regulations.
- Inspecting tracks and structures associated with bridge railroad maintenance, and review of track safety and quality assurance.
- Demonstrated experience in the inspection, construction, and repair of structures made of prestressed and cast-in-place concrete, steel, timber, and combinations of these materials.
- Able to respond to a bridge emergency 24/7, including but not limited to the bridge inspection, assessment, monitoring, and repair.
- Knowledgeable of Federal Railroad Administration Part 237, and American Railway Engineering & Maintenance of Way Association standards and/or regulations respectively.
- Must possess 49 CFR 213.7 Designation or documentation of eligibility.
- Knowledge of computer applications such as Word, Excel, and other statistical databases.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English with strong communication skills.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.”
- Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
- Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements for this position.
- Lift and transfer weight up to 70 pounds for a distance of up to 100 feet.
- Work in extreme all-weather conditions; uneven surfaces; safety sensitive work environment.
- Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.
- Regularly ascend and descend an 18 step ladder with up to 25 pounds. Frequently climb on/off equipment.
- Regularly push/pull with a body force of up to 50 pounds.
- Use hands to regularly grasp or squeeze wrenches, switches requiring force up to 60 pounds.
- Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
- Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
- Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
- Regularly kneel, bend, squat while transferring up to 25 pounds of weight.
- Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
- Work in a confined access/space environment as narrow as 18 inches.
