We are seeking an experienced Transportation Engineer with a PE license to lead the Department of Transportation efforts for the region including business development and providing high-level geotechnical or construction materials testing consulting throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region, with a strong focus on the Carolinas.
Responsibilities
Maintain current client/customer relationships and grow additional client/customer base for new sector.
Provide senior technical oversight and expertise in complex proposals and projects.
Conduct business development, networking and marketing efforts.
Attend client meetings to present technical data to clients/customers.
Prepare and/or direct preparation of reports, specifications, plans, testing schedules and design for projects.
Troubleshoot client issues or concerns in a timely manner for both construction materials testing and geotechnical services.
Analyze reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, test and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics and other topographical and geological data to plan and design projects.
Provide support, guidance, coordination and training to construction materials testing professionals, geotechnical engineers and branch managers through the Mid-Atlantic region (NC, SC, VA, MD).
Supervise Corporate QC Managers; oversees quality control and adherence to best practices, industry standards (ASTM, AASHTO, ASCE, etc.), and regulatory guidelines to ensure compliance with materials testing and geotechnical best practices.
Examine, sign and seal engineering reports, lot letters and field recommendations as applicable.
Provide leadership, mentorship and guidance to other engineers and project managers throughout the company.
Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Maintain excellent communication both verbally and electronically with senior management, other project managers and colleagues to improve consistency and efficiency in reporting procedures.
Work independently and collaboratively within office and field environments, adapting to dynamic project needs.
Travel to project sites as needed to conduct inspections, assessments, and provide engineering support.
Ensure strict adherence to company safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements, promoting a culture of workplace safety and compliance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or similar is required.
NC/SC Professional Engineering license (PE) required with the ability to obtain additional state licenses as needed.
5+ years of work experience in construction materials or geotechnical engineering as a proven leader and producer in the DOT sector is required.
Proven track record of managing mid-to-large scale engineering projects from inception to completion.
Ability to read and write common scientific and technical concepts, journals, legal documents including contracts and financial reports.
Knowledge and familiarity with industry standards and regulations in geotechnical and construction materials testing methods, ASTM standards, AASHTO, DOT, ASCE, OSHA, laboratory testing, soil classifications, and construction oversight.
Experience developing project scopes, budgets, schedules, and risk assessments for infrastructure or construction projects.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to write technical reports, proposals, business correspondences and/or procedure manuals as needed with solid written communication formats and composition, including grammar and vocabulary.
Ability to lead project teams, mentor junior engineers, and coordinate multidisciplinary efforts.
Proven experience in client communication, engagement, and presentation to others.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting, proposal writing, and presentations to customers, clients and colleagues.
Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop and cell phone, including sending and receiving emails, prepare and present PowerPoint Presentations and learn/use Deltek Vantagepoint, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and geotechnical design software.
Mathematical skills sufficient to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, profitability, statistical inference and permutations as well as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination or test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Days and hours for this position are typically Monday-Friday with some weekend and/or overnight work and travel may be required.
Travel may be required.
Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments.
Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus), smell, hear and touch (use your hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit).
Ability to regularly lift and/or move/shake and occasionally move up to 25lbs.
Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle and can include uneven surfaces, sand and other man-made obstacles.
