Graduation from high school, vocational school, or equivalent and three years of experience in plumbing or any equivalent combination of related training and experience.

A Valid Florida Driver License is required and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets the requirements of Alachua County policy #6-7; Motor Vehicle Records will be reviewed prior to employment. If, in the past 24-month period, the applicants Motor Vehicle Record has more than three (3) moving traffic infractions or three (3) or more at fault motor vehicle accidents (or combination of both and /or a conviction/pending charge for driving under the influence) or is in violation of any standard mandated by Federal or State Law or Regulation, the minimum qualifications are not met for the position.

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen & physical examination and successful completion of all applicable background checks pre-hire and ongoing are required.

This is skilled craft work in commercial and residential plumbing in the Facilities Management Department.

An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for installing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance for plumbing equipment.

Work is performed under the direction of a higher-level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.

This is an emergency essential classification. Upon declaration of a disaster and/or emergency, all employees in this classification are required to work.

Exudes a positive customer service focus.

Maintains supply and discharge piping systems by opening clogged buildings and systems piping and replacing diaphragms.

Coordinates materials and supplies for larger projects.

Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on faucets, sinks, traps, commodes, urinals, and flush valves.

Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on gas, vacuum, air, chilled, steam, and hot water lines.

Detects the location of gas leaks and repairs accordingly. Installs and maintains sump pumps.

Repairs and changes out air compressors, booster pumps, and vacuum pumps.

Repairs and replaces sanitary and storm sewer lines and plumbing fixtures including backflow preventers.

Provides support to other trades and contractors. Performs related duties as assigned.

Completes work orders as assigned, including accurate and timely entries into the department's work order management system.

Conducts preventative maintenance/safety inspections and repairs.

Maintains and repairs power tools and equipment, as assigned.

Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment that is not under contract with the carrier.

Participates in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Estimates time and materials for assigned projects and keeps records of cost involved.

Provides limited supervision and instruction to semi-skilled and unskilled helpers.

Drives a County and/or personal vehicle to perform required duties.

Performs the duties listed, as well as those assigned, with professionalism and a sense of urgency.

Skill in the use of tools, materials and equipment used in general maintenance and plumbing.

Ability to work from sketches, plans, blueprints, and schematics.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to make estimates of time and materials and prepare records of same.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and the public.

Ability to perform duties under adverse conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
