Department: The Lift Operations Department Offices and Lift Operations Locker Rooms are in the Operations/Events Building located in the upper village area, adjacent to the Alder parking lot.

Job Relationships:

  • Reports to: Lift Operations Manager and Assistant Manager
  • Employees Supervised: Lift Operators and Lift Crew Leaders
  • Interrelationships: Works closely and communicates effectively with all Lift Operations department employees, Ski School, Patrol, Groomers, Lift Maintenance, Guests, and other mountain personnel.

Job Specifications:

  • Minimum High school education, GED, trade school or equivalent.
  • Minimum two seasons with the lift department or prior management experience.
  • Minimum two years of experience as lift operator on both detachable and fixed grip lifts, and the demonstrated ability to perform the required functions of Crew Leader.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate all lifts independent of additional supervision.
  • Knowledge of ANSI code.
  • Per WSI Vehicle Insurance standards: must be at least 18 years of age to transport guests and possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to be added to WSI’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Ability to provide accurate information and maintain a good attitude during stressful situations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with customers, co-workers, and management.
  • Ability to drive a snowmobile daily to help with operations.
  • May be required to work overtime, holidays, night skiing shifts and weekends as requested by the Manager.
  • Skiing/Snowboarding skills are required for this position.
  • Skill in operating basic machinery.

General Duties: The Lift Supervisor assists in all aspects of running the daily operation of Whitefish Mountain Resort’s aerial and surface lifts in a safe and efficient manner. The Supervisor assists operators in training and supervising of lift crews, will fill in for the sick or injured, and as extra help during the holidays. The Supervisor will work in all positions at the lifts in order to give breaks.

Specific Duties:

  • Leads all aspects of chair lift(s) operations in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Trains, directs, monitors, and assists Lift Operators and Crew Leaders in all areas of Lift Operations, Ticket Checking and Guest Service policies and procedures.
  • Assures daily lift inspections are completed in accordance with established operating and safety procedures. Verifies operational logs.
  • Helps complete and review lift incident reports and downtime reports for accuracy and completion.
  • Assures each lift station is maintained in a neat and orderly manner, including ramps, corrals, machinery decks, terminal buildings, and other visible/non-visible areas.
  • Advises Lift Maintenance Department and/or Lift Operations Manager of unusual or unsafe mechanical situations.
  • Supports team members when dealing with guest issues, taking lead role as needed.
  • Provides input on employee performance evaluations.
  • Participates in on-going training as required.
  • Gains thorough understanding of all aspects of Whitefish Mountain resort to function as an information source for guests.
  • Meets company’s requirements for appearance, attendance and punctuality and adheres to company policies.
  • Provides coverage at lifts for breaks and as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Able to work while standing for extended periods of time up to 8 hrs.
  • Able to engage in repetitive body motion involving upper body torque during the loading of guests in chairs and shoveling snow at job site.
  • Able to work under varying weather conditions, often extreme in nature.

Safety & Wellness

  • Support and actively promote the success of the Winter Sports, Inc Health & Safety Process including participation in on-going programs.
  • Follow and comply with OSHA standards as defined by company policy and procedures.
  • Report any injury and/or unsafe working conditions to the operator, assistant manager, or manager ASAP.

All team members must be on constant alert for any unsafe conditions and work behaviors. This will involve, but not be limited to, periodic inspections of work and public areas. Follow up notification will be done to correct the condition or practice at the earliest possible opportunity.
