CITY OF ASHTABULA POSITION AVAILABLE LABORER WITHOUT CDL SANITATION DEPARTMENT The City of Ashtabula is seeking applications for the full-time position of Laborer (without CDL) in the Sanitation Department. Immediate Supervisor of the Position: Superintendent of Public Services (or his designee) Rate of Pay $19.16/Entrance; $19.64/Step 1 (1 yr.); $20.13/Step 2 (2-5 yrs.); $20.62 Step 3 (6-10 yrs); $21.44/Step 4 (11+ yrs.) per hour, ($ 1.00 per hour less if less than 120 days of service) and entitles you to city benefits. General Statement of Duties: A laborer primarily collects refuse along waste collection routes and transports waste to a transfer station and/or landfill. Refuse collection and recycling duties are added as necessary. Examples of Duties and Responsibilities: - Lift garbage bags and/or cans into garbage truck - Pick up yard waste and tree limbs - Assist in various waste recycling activities - Able to carry out written and verbal orders efficiently - Able to operate power tools as needed - Lift furniture, tires and waste materials from public and private property - Collect litter from right-of-way and public areas - Lifting and delivery of heavy materials to job sites - Clean job sites and public property with periodic supervision of others - Periodic upgrade to equipment operator's position Knowledge of and Demonstrated Skills Required: - Ability to drive a garbage truck - Follow orders, rules, maps and direction for refuse pick up - Capable of independent and responsible action - Able to work safely and have a safe driving record - Must be able to communicate effectively with the public - Reading written orders and write reports All applicants must be able to obtain a Class B Ohio Commercial Drivers License within six (6) months from the date position is awarded.
