Serves as bridge crew foreman supervising personnel to perform various construction, repair, and preservation of bridges and roads. Functions as a working supervisor, operates motorized equipment in a variety of maintenance activities, as needed. Plans and schedules routine and preventative activities as well as investigates bridge deficiencies reported from inspections; prioritizes and schedules the necessary work. Devises a daily work schedule for work to be per by bridge crew. Determines proper equipment, materials, and labor needed in order to complete tasks. Reviews inspection reports for needed repairs to bridges on the state highway system. Closes out bridge deficiencies in Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS) after repairs are made. Instructs crew members daily in safety practices, completes job hazard assessment forms, mitigates risks, and conducts safety meeting prior to commencement of work activities. Coordinates the placement of traffic control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone according to current Agency guidelines, policies, and procedures. Instructs crew members on practices such as flagging operations, wearing of safety equipment, vehicle safety, and job hazards. Maintains accurate daily, weekly and monthly reports and records personnel's working time, material usage, accomplishments, and equipment usage in EAMS. Recommends personnel actions including promotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions; rates employees according to the Employee Performance Management System. Conducts safety inspection on assigned vehicles and equipment and instructs crew members on proper vehicle and equipment pre-trip requirements. Ensures employees within the crew complete CDL pre-trip inspections prior to operating CDL vehicles and equipment. Manages assigned crew in emergency or inclement weather operations; may include on-call or working 12-hour shifts. Operates boom truck, excavator, skid steer, and dump truck. Performs other related duties as assigned. Four (4) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operators license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
