Supervises and directs a crew of Plumbers in the repair, replacement, maintenance and installation of all types of plumbing fixtures and accessories in City-owned facilities.

Qualifying Requirements:

Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.

  • WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show a minimum of six (6) years of full time paid professional experience as a plumber which includes two (2) years in a supervisor capacity overseeing construction/skilled trades. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
  • EDUCATION/TRAINING: None required for this position.
  • EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). The Total Qualifying Requirement is six (6) years.

  • Directs the repair, replacement, and maintenance of plumbing fixtures and accessories (i.e., water, waste, gas, vents, restroom facilities, drinking fountains, fire lines, fire hydrants, swimming pools, spray parks, irrigation systems, etc.) in City facilities in accordance with the Allegheny County Health Department Plumbing Code.
  • Ensures that work is performed in accordance with established City and Departmental policy, rules, and regulations.
  • Determines priorities for jobs; assigns daily work to crews.
  • Supervises assigned personnel; evaluates work; recommends and implements approved disciplinary and/or corrective action; provides training and/or technical assistance as requested or required.
  • Coordinates work with other trades.
  • Coordinates and ensures temporary water service for City facilities when normal water services is interrupted as requested or required.
  • Drives City vehicle as required.
  • Uses a variety of technological hardware (i.e., computers, laptops, tablets, smart phones, GPS, cameras, etc.) and/or software (i.e., email, Cartegraph, Microsoft Office, etc.) to maintain records (i.e., time sheets, job progress, and materials and resources used) and prepares accurate reports on work performed.
  • Stocks, locates, and requisitions equipment, parts, and supplies.
  • Plans, develops, directs, coordinates, organizes, and controls the materials, equipment, and personnel under area of management toward the effective, efficient, and economical attainment of program and departmental goals, including maximum convenience to the public and safety of employees.
  • On-call 24 hours and responds to emergencies.
  • Applies for and obtains required permits from the Allegheny County Health Department for approved plumbing work (i.e., remodeling, new construction, etc.) with appropriate license.
  • Performs activities and functions of related personnel as assigned or required.
  • Performs such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
