While reporting to the Manager - Technology, you will be responsible exercising initiative, inventiveness, and independent judgment in designing machines, making prototypes, and carrying out assignments in areas of process or product development. You will be responsible for performing other duties required to produce new or modified production equipment or processes using CAD modeling software.

What you'll be doing:

  • Understand the end users needs, define design criteria, design the machine/equipment, optimize the design through design iterations
  • Work in a team environment for more complex projects
  • Work alone or with technicians for prototyping to validate design ideas or concepts
  • Search for most effective fabrication methods and design for them to achieve best performance to cost ratio
  • Work with suppliers and design firms to design, construct specialized equipment or machines
  • Coordinate and support construction, installation, and debugging phases for projects by answering questions and revising documentation. These activities will require infrequent travel both domestic and international. They also require infrequent occurrences of weekend wor k .
  • Create safety, operation, PM (Preventative Maintenance) documents for the equipment and machines
  • Prepare layout, assembly, and detailed fabrication drawings from sketches, notes, and verbal instructions of project managers, engineers , customers, etc.
  • Direct and guide designers and technicians as assigned on projects. These may be internal or external resources.
  • Lead and/or assist project leaders or engineers with cost estimates for project budget and schedules.
  • Work closely with vendors to help ensure parts are as specified and projects remain on schedule
  • Make suggestions for new products by identifying improvements or other opportunities.
  • Take initiative to recommend new and better ways to accomplish the documentation task and goals of the engineering department.

This position is located at our Corporate Headquarters in beautiful Hartsville, SC and close to exciting destinations (Myrtle Beach, SC Charleston, SC, Columbia, SC and Charlotte, NC).

Wed love to hear from you if:

  • You have BSME degree or an Associate Degree in a relevant technical discipline (Engineering Graphics, Machinery Design, Engineering Technology, etc.)
  • You are proficient in CAD modeling software ( Autodesk Inventor is our standard CAD modeling software)
  • You have 5 or more years of related working experience
  • Experience with and knowledge about AC motors and control, general electrical components/system control, PLC, electronics, etc., is a plus
  • Be able to work with a team of people on projects. Be able to teach your colleague about your knowledge effectively and learn from them as well .
  • You are curious and willing to dig deep to find the root causes for problem s.
  • You are open to new concepts and seek creative solutions to problems
  • You are willing to evaluate many ideas/concepts first without running with the first solution identified.
  • Can easily adopt new approach to doing things without being burdened by legacy knowledge
  • You are patient and able to stand the rigor of selecting and shaping design concept through multiple design iterations
  • You have good time management skills and are able to stay focused on most important items.

This is a progression position and level will be based on candidate experience and business needs.

Compensation:

Engineer I - Design: The annual base salary range for this role is from $70,080 to $78,840 .

Engineer II - Design: The annual base salary range for this role is from $84,640 to $95,220 .

Engineer III - Design: The annual base salary range for this role is from $96,400 to $108,450.

Senior Engineer - Design: The annual base salary range for this role is from $104,400 to $117,450, plus an annual target bonus of 7.5% of base salary.
