We are seeking an experienced Senior Architect/Project Manager to join our growing team and take ownership of project health across multiple residential projects. This dual role serves as both Studio Director support and hands-on project leadership, managing client relationships, coordinating consultant teams, and mentoring our internal design staff.
This position is critical to our growth strategy - you will help us build our internal team capabilities, establish robust project delivery systems, and ensure we consistently create exceptional projects.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Health
Own complete project health for assigned residential projects from Schematic Design through Construction Administration
Ensure milestones and deadlines are consistently met across all phases
Monitor and manage project budgets, ensuring pace of hours aligns with total project fees
Master project "unblocker" - identify and resolve issues before they impact delivery
Track and optimize team utilization rates (target: 85%+)
Client & Consultant Leadership
Primary client point of contact for project coordination and communication
Lead client meetings and effectively communicate vision, programming, and design details
Oversee successful collaboration with consultant teams
Solicit, review, negotiate and execute consultant proposals and contracts
Oversee successful coordination of information flow between all project stakeholders
Team Development & Leadership
Mentor our design team toward advanced capabilities and strong collaborations
Provide technical direction to project teams on design solutions, materials, and details
Support licensure candidates and professional development
Address performance issues constructively and promptly
Ensure that design intent remains clearly expressed in the work as the project develops
Studio Operations Support
Manage resource allocation and staffing across all projects
Maintain and improve studio systems, procedures, and quality standards
Participate in business development activities as needed
Support proposal preparation and project scoping
Required Qualifications
Education & Licensure
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from a NAAB accredited program
California Architect license strongly preferred (non-licensed candidates considered)
Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in architectural practice
Project Experience
Residential design experience required - custom homes, renovations, additions
Proven track record managing and leading projects from Schematic Design through Construction Administration
Experience coordinating consultant teams (mechanical/electrical/plumbing, structural, landscape)
Technical Skills
Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, Slack, and Google Suite
Strong hand sketching ability for design communication
Working knowledge of California building codes and accessibility requirements (both City of LA and LA County processes)
Experience with project management software and systems
Leadership & Communication Skills
Exceptional written and verbal communication - clear, concise, direct, professional
Proven ability to mentor and develop junior staff
Experience managing remote and distributed teams
Strong client service orientation and presentation skills
Ability to manage both up and down effectively
