In the absence of a shift supervisor, the relief operator may need to coordinate shift activities and assess plant requirements, taking on a lead role to maintain mill operations. The successful candidate will collaborate with personnel from different departments, including Maintenance and Shipping, and may interact with customers and vendors, always prioritizing their best interests. Proficiency in computer use and a willingness to learn new software for mill operations are essential, along with strong communication skills. The operator should demonstrate initiative in diagnosing and resolving mill operation issues independently and possess a solid understanding of plant processes, quality standards, and production requirements. A commitment to health, safety, and environmental policies is crucial, fostering a culture of safety in all work environments. Key responsibilities include starting up, operating, and shutting down the grinding systems, conducting equipment inspections, and maintaining general housekeeping related to production. The operator must perform quality checks to ensure compliance with specifications, adhere to safety protocols, and operate heavy equipment such as dozers and loaders. The position typically requires working 8 or 12-hour rotating shifts, with a minimum educational requirement of a high school diploma or GED, while an associate degree is preferred. Requirements Specific Accountabilities : Perform start up, normal operation, and shutdown of the referenced systems. Perform equipment inspection and general housekeeping and miscellaneous tasks associated with production. Perform quality checks to ensure mill is operating within quality specifications Meets plant safety requirements and follows safe work practices. Operate heavy equipment as dozer, loader and Bobcat. Normal working hours are 8 or 12 hour rotating shifts WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Required Education : High School diploma / GED Additional Education Preferred : Associate's Degree Must be able to take initiative to diagnose and / or correct mill operation issues without necessarily being asked or told to do so, must be required to be knowledgeable of the plant process, quality and production requirements. Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use o an approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests. Requirements WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Education : High school diploma or equivalent Must have own mechanical tools (Any specialty tools that are needed will be provided) Required Work Experience : Minimum of 5 years experience performing the functions listed above in a construction, building materials, manufacturing or industrial environment. Proficient in hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic systems Ability to prepare work estimates and quotes Experience conducting routine services and vehicle maintenance Excellent oral communication skills with close attention to detail Required Computer and Software Skills : Basic computer skills Ability to work in all weather conditions without limitations.
