POSITION: Superintendent FLSA: Non-Exempt

DEPARMENT: Public Works PAY RANGE: 30/1 $25.07 per hour

DIVISION: Street Maintenance SAFETY SENSITIVE: Yes

This classification is a safety-sensitive position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations and/or the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act. As a safety-sensitive classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana certification will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.

JOB SUMMARY: This position requires a proactive leader who is not only responsible for planning, operations, and maintenance of the Street Maintenance Division but is also committed to continuous improvement, learning new technologies, and setting a high standard of work ethic and leadership for their team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

· Supervise maintenance and operation of traffic control division. Works with the Public Works Director and Assistant Director in assessing projects, plans and repairs for city streets. Selects, trains, and evaluates street maintenance division workers. Oversees and assigns crews of workers to various street maintenance and construction jobs. Inspects work of crews to ensure compliance with accepted work standards. Keeps record of various street maintenance division activities.

· Inspects vehicles and equipment to ensure safety in operation and maintenance of equipment.

· Makes recommendations for street improvements and equipment purchases and modifications.

· Receives and investigates complaints about streets.

· Utilizes software and digital tools for maintenance scheduling, asset tracking, and reporting.

· Implements and trains staff on new technologies to improve operational efficiency.

· Prepares and maintains electronic records of work orders, inspection, and material usage.

· Reports to Operations Superintendent and performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

· High school education or equivalent. Must possess valid Oklahoma commercial drivers license and maintain driving record acceptable to the Citys insurance carrier.

· Experience and training in street construction, repair, and maintenance.

· Ability to read, interpret and inspect from engineering plans.

· Knowledge of traffic signal devices and associated infrastructure.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Prior training in ODOT materials, paving, and concrete construction.

· Certification in Level 1: Signs and markings on Traffic Signals through International Municipal Signal Association, Inc.

· Demonstrated ability to lead teams, mentor staff, and foster a culture of accountability and growth.

· Experience with work order or asset management software.

· Familiarity with GIS mapping, field data collection apps, or GPS tracing systems.

· Willingness to pursue continuing education and training relevant to municipal operations and emerging technologies.

· Knowledge of City streets.

· Knowledge of and ability to operate street equipment and machinery.

· Knowledge of street construction, repair and maintenance methods.

· Previous supervisory and administrative experience.

· Ability to effectively communicate with others.

SUPERVISION REQUIRED: Work under general supervision of Public Works Director.

SUPERVISION GIVEN: Supervise street and traffic control employees through subordinate supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL HAZARDS:

· Must be willing to perform call-back work during off duty hours.

· Most of work is performed outdoors subject to inclement weather conditions.

· Requires the ability to conduct on site, field inspections of work by street maintenance personnel.

· Occasionally the job site may be on rough, uneven terrain, or in confined areas.

· May be exposed to noxious or hazardous chemicals and/or odors.
