MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through the completion of high school, two (2) years of experience in horticulture, or a related area, two (2) years of experience in grounds maintenance, golf course maintenance, parks development and construction, or a related area, and one (1) year of supervisory experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:- Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position and must possess a valid Arkansas Class A (Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License within ninety (90) days of employment and maintain licensure for duration of employment in this position.
- Must possess Arkansas State Plant Board Non-Commercial Applicator Certificate, Class 9 Ornamental Tree and Turf Pest Control, OR Arkansas State Plant Board Commercial Applicator License, Category 4, Ornamental Tree and Turf Pest Control, within eighteen (18) months of employment and maintain certification/licensure for duration of employment in this position.

- Knowledge of the proper mixing and application of restricted use chemical agents, including fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and pesticides.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance requirements for tractors, mowers, and medium and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of greenhouse and plant nursery operations.
- Knowledge of the methods and techniques of mowing, planting, pruning, trimming, transplanting, and watering flowers, shrubs, trees and turf.
- Knowledge of the methods and techniques of turf establishment, including seeding and sodding, and standard turf management practices.
- Knowledge of the installation and maintenance of decorative and drinking fountains and irrigation and sprinkler systems.
- Knowledge of the methods and techniques of land contouring and drainage systems development, including the use of sight levels, French drains, swales, and drainage trenches.
- Knowledge of building construction methods and practices.
- Knowledge of basic principles of plumbing and electrical systems.
- Skill in the operation of a sight level.
- Skill in the operation of a computer terminal.
- Skill in the operation of medium and heavy equipment, including backhoe, bucket truck, forklift, front-end loader, scissors lift, tractor, and trencher.
- Skill in the operation of an automatic transmission automobile.
- Ability to contour land and to install French drains, swales, and drainage trenches.
- Ability to install and maintain fountains and irrigation and sprinkler systems.
- Ability to hook up electrical and water outlets.
- Ability to maintain hard copy and computer files and records.
- Ability to maintain an equipment and tool inventory control system.
- Ability to lay sod.
- Ability to mix and apply chemical agents, including fertilizer, fungicide, herbicide, insecticide, and pesticide, to plant materials.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to read and follow simple blueprints or sketches.
- Ability to direct the work activities and monitor the performance of assigned personnel.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
