Discovering your exciting role
A plastic welder uses specialized equipment and welding tools to fabricate and assemble plastic parts into a finished product according to print specifications in a timely manner to meet customer requirements and the production schedule.
Explore your tasks and responsibilities
- Independently read and follow CAD drawings and work instructions.
- Perform complete plastic welding assemblies without supervision.
- Troubleshoot basic weld defects and adjust basic equipment settings.
- Develop and modify basic templates and fixtures.
- Perform self-inspection on parts for quality assurance.
- Drill, cut, shape, and form plastic materials as needed.
- Assist other fabricators when necessary to complete projects.
- Escalate quality, safety, or process concerns to supervisors.
- Perform tool maintenance (sharpen or replace worn tools).
- Complete other job-related duties assigned by supervisors.
- Suggest improvements to templates and welding setups.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing and use of hands in this support role is required.
- Specific vision abilities required to include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Perform physical activities including lifting (up to 50 lbs. unassisted)

Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
- 2-4 years in a manufacturing environment.
- 2–4 years’ plastic welding experience.
Technical Skills
- Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings.
- Use of grinders, drills, Dremel tools, and saws.
- Skilled in operating welding equipment and power tools independently.
Mechanical Aptitude
Mechanical Aptitude and good understanding of how plastic materials behave during cutting, forming, and welding.
Mathematical Skills
Good basic math skills for measurements, layout, and quality checks.
Problem-Solving Skills
Ability to detect weld defects, troubleshoot issues, and make process adjustments. Identifies basic process issues and proposes solutions.
Language Skills
Good oral and written English communication skills for understanding orders and documentation.
Computer Skills
Basic computer skills for data entry, reading electronic instructions, or reporting.
Teamwork
Willingness to assist others and collaborate on larger assemblies or projects.
Adaptability
Adjusts methods depending on part type and material.
Manual Dexterity and Hand-Eye Coordination
Increased precision and control for tighter tolerances.
Safety Awareness
Ensures work area safety proactively.
