This Exempt position is part of the Public Employees Union (PEU) based on a 40 hour work week with an annual salary range of $67,275-$90,563. This position will work out of the Utilities Building located at 1900 2nd Avenue North, Lake Worth, FL 33460.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Project Manager is tasked with providing support for project management, contract management, budgeting, cost and schedule control, and activity coordination necessary for the successful execution of utility projects and activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Development, gathering, and tracking of project costs to project accounts, development of detailed project schedules, funding requests, status updates, identification and tracking of key milestones and potential interferences, change order processing, etc.
  • Assemble bid packages including engineering drawings, specifications and contracts, conduct bid reviews, conduct contractor technical evaluations.
  • Prepare staff reports seeking project approvals from management, prepare project review documents.
  • Manage project documentation such as meeting agendas, minutes, status reviews and document libraries including change order coordination, invoice processing for payment authorization, including commissioning check lists, and project closeout documentation.
  • Coordinate with Finance Department for project transition from construction work in progress to in-service status for proper accounting treatment.
  • Participated in onsite project management, project deliverable review and acceptance activities.
  • Develop and coordinate with engineering department and accounting department for annual budget for capital and O&M for related projects. Provide updates to spending and projections as needed.
  • Review and process contractors requests for payment and change orders.
  • Help ensure completion of projects on schedule and within budget organizing and reporting on project elements.
  • Develops project objectives, costs, and schedules by reviewing strategic plans and conferring with management.
  • Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements, suggest personnel resources best suited to manage/complete phases and elements.
  • Completes technical studies and prepares cost estimates for project alternatives.
  • Tracks and reports on project costs; processes pay apps and assists in contract management.
  • Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Project management skills and/or certifications
  • Process improvement skills and/or certifications
  • Technical understanding of electric utility transmission and distribution systems preferred
  • Project cost and scheduling, commissioning and closeout
  • Proficiency in use of MS Office, Outlook
  • Experience with project management tools such as MS Project
  • Safety awareness

OTHER:

  • This position has occasional expectation of evening and weekend work.
  • Perform field assistance during hurricane/storm recovery such as logistics and damage assessment support.
  • Other duties as assigned during emergency situations such as storm recovery efforts.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Project Management or equivalent experience in the utility industry
  • Must have relevant work experience in the engineering, construction, operations, etc. of utility systems and/or components.
  • Must have a valid automobile Drivers License.

All full-time employees are considered critical in response to emergency situations and may be deemed essential as needed depending on the situation.

Employees in this position will be required to complete the FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) Certification Levels 100, 200, 700 and 800 within the first six months of employment. Certain positions may be required to attain additional ICS training as needed.
