A leading Division 7 specialty contractor (coatings, caulking, sealants, waterproofing), is seeking a self-starting Estimator
This hybrid role combines estimating and sales responsibilities, with light project management support after project award.
Key Responsibilities
You'll be responsible for performing takeoffs, preparing competitive bids, and building strong relationships with general contractors within a 100-mile radius of your assigned market. This is not a cold-calling role - all bid invitations are inbound from existing relationships or through strategic outreach.
Estimating & Preconstruction:
Analyze architectural drawings and specifications to determine scope of work
Perform quantity takeoffs using Bluebeam and internal pricing tools
Prepare and submit 2-3 bids per week, applying labor, material, and markup
Track bid follow-ups, scope differences, and customer feedback
Assist in submittal preparation and light project handoff documentation
Sales & Client Relations:
Build and maintain relationships with top GCs (client list provided)
Follow up on submitted bids to clarify scope, pricing, and close work
Attend networking functions, lunches, golf events, clay shoots, and ABC meetings to strengthen client ties (fully reimbursed)
Act as the face within your local commercial construction community
Project Support (Post-Award):
Support Superintendents with submittals, material selections, and pricing of change orders
Assist in keeping awarded projects organized and moving (you are not managing jobs day-to-day)
Qualifications :
1-5 years of experience in commercial construction estimating, sales, or specialty trades (Division 7 preferred)
Industry crossover from drywall, painting, concrete, or coatings welcome
Must be able to read and understand commercial blueprints and 3D concepts from 2D drawings
Skills & Tools:
Proficient in Bluebeam and Microsoft Excel (must know how to create basic formulas)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Well-organized, analytical, and highly self-directed
Confident, personable, and motivated to pursue and close work
Able to manage your own pipeline and stay accountable to goals
Comfortable working both independently and as part of a larger team
Willing to travel locally for jobsite visits and client meetings (mileage reimbursed at $0.70/mile)
