Purpose
The Design Lead is a strategic and creative leader responsible for shaping and driving the evolution of Reece USAs retail store environments. Serving as both a visionary and a practitioner, the Design Lead partners with executives and internal teams to align design direction with business strategy, while mentoring a team of analysts and managing external partners. This role is pivotal in ensuring divisional branch design reinforces brand identity, enhances customer experience, and scales efficiently across diverse markets.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development of branch design strategies and principles in alignment with executive vision
Translate strategic goals into creative concepts and branch design standards
Oversee the production of conceptual and schematic designs for new builds, relocations, remodels, and other special projects
Mentor and coach junior team members, reviewing work and guiding development
Review and approve sign packages, finish palettes, and layout recommendations
Lead consultant coordination, including external architects and vendors
Manage architectural documentation standards across all formats and regions
Conduct design reviews, executive presentations, and business case support
Monitor retail and experiential design trends to inform store evolution
Partner with customer research and insights teams to translate data into actionable design responses
Support capital planning and budgeting efforts related to design initiatives
Key Competencies and Skills Required
Demonstrated leadership in design strategy and execution (retail experience a plus)
Deep understanding of customer behavior, operational flows, and retail trends
Strong conceptual, visual, and communication skills
Expertise in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, Procore, and Bluebeam.
Experience leading teams and managing vendor relationships
Comfort working with executive stakeholders and influencing cross-functional decisions
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, Interior Design, or related field
7+ years of experience in retail design, with a strong portfolio of realized work
Proven track record of leading design projects across multiple locations
Comfortable with a player-coach dynamic: leading strategy and contributing directly to execution
Willingness to travel as required (~20%)
