Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or GED
3+ years HVAC experience in installation, repair, or maintenance
Preferred:
5+ years of experience and/or 3-year apprenticeship under a journeyman technician
Must Have:
Valid drivers license
EPA Section 608 Certification (or ability to obtain)
State HVAC Technician License
Accredited HVAC technical program certificate

Position Summary:
The HVAC Technician supports the mission of SNAP by ensuring the safety, comfort, and energy efficiency of residential and in-house commercial properties. This role involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, with a strong emphasis on customer service, technical excellence, and community impact.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and cooling equipment for residential customers and in-house commercial systems. Diagnose and repair electronic, mechanical, and electrical components.
Travel to job sites within the service area, coordinate with Housing Specialists to maintain schedules, and communicate delays to customers promptly and professionally.
Document all installed equipment upon arrival, including make, model, serial number, fuel type, test measurements, and photographs.
Diagnose diverse service issues, obtain and install replacement parts, recalibrate systems to manufacturer specifications, and clearly explain the issue and resolution to the customer.
Perform preventative maintenance to extend the life and efficiency of HVAC systems.
Service, repair, and replace electric, gas, and oil HVAC systems.
Represent the agencys mission and values in all interactions, serving as an ambassador of community support and equity.
Complete assigned projects and perform related duties as needed or as situations dictate.
Provide excellent customer service and contribute to a culture of service excellence within the agency, striving to exceed customer expectations.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Required: High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience in troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and installing HVAC equipment.
Preferred: High school diploma or GED with 5+ years of experience and 3 years of apprenticeship under a journeyman technician.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Critical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in diverse environments.
Cultural competency and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from various backgrounds.
Familiarity with community resources and referral programs.
Commitment to quality work and timely completion of tasks.
Ability to explain complex HVAC issues in a clear, customer-friendly manner.
Training and Certifications:
Valid state drivers license.
EPA Section 608 Certification for refrigerant handling (or ability to obtain).
State HVAC Technician License.
Certification from an accredited HVAC technical program.
Work Environment/Physical Activities:
This position requires working in seasonal heat and cold. Must be able to safely perform physical aspects of the job including lifting up to 85 pounds, pulling, transporting, handling equipment and materials, crawling, and using step ladders. Frequently works in confined spaces, such as beneath floors and in attics and crawl spaces. May require working on rooftops and other potentially hazardous areas. May be exposed to dusty, wet, muddy, poorly ventilated and occasionally unsanitary environments. May be exposed to fumes and substances including paint, solvents, and other materials.
