Overview
UIC Construction seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator who is responsible for operating a variety of heavy construction equipment, including road graders, rock trucks, bulldozers, scrapers, shovels, excavators, tractors, loaders, and forklifts.
ResponsibilitiesEssential functions to include:
Perform heavy duty equipment operation as directed by the site superintendent
- Additional duties as assigned
Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:
- Must have operator's proficiency on a varity of equipment including but not limited to road graders, rock trucks, bulldozers, scrapers, shovels, excavators, tractors, loaders, and forklifts.
- Perform independently without direct supervision
- Ability to operate basic construction equipment, such as forklifts and loaders
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to perform duties and operation of tols of the trade in strict compliance with OSHA
- Have punctual and on time work history
- Work well within a team setting
Preferred Experience:
- CDL license preferred but not required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have comprehensive working knowledge of commercial construction.
- Must have 5+ of related experience in commercial construction.
- Must have 3+ of prior work history as an operator.
- Must possess and maintain current driver's license.
- Must have a punctual work history.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to have good motion of range for body and limbs.
- Handle and manipulate objects and material.
- Coordinaate the movement of eyes, hands, feet and fingers to complete assigned tasks.
- Able to utilize visual skills and hearing skills.
- Ability to work at heights above 12' while working from ladders, scaffolding, and/or man lifts.
- Extensive physical activity.
- Requires stenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of ojects over 50 pounds.
- Be able to reach in all directions.
- Whilre performing the duies of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical part, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions and vibration.
- When operating equipment on uneven surfaces.
- Must be able to sit in the operator's seat of equipment and safely reach all pedals, switches, levers, buttons, etc. required safely operate the equipment (if authorized fo that piece of equipment.
- Must be able to sit in the opeartor's seat of equipment and have an adequate field of vision of all instruments, gauges, warning lights, as well as an acceptable field of vision out of the windows and/or mirrors (if authorized for that piece of equipment).
- Will work in all types of weather.
- Work in different elevations.
- Job site will contain light to heavy equipment, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools.
- People standing, walking, sitting, signaling and talking.
- May be occasional bells, alarms and whistles.
- Applicant may be subject to environmental conditions of extreme cold, noise exposure, constantly changing work environment, irregular surfaces, slippery surfaces, moving equipment, open excavations, temporary tructures and general construction hazards.
