The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation is looking for an Equipment Operator Lead/Journey 3 to help us

Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing:

  • Perform year-round maintenance of State highways, airports (including a Category III FAA Part 139 airport), bridges, seaplane bases, and related infrastructure
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as plow trucks, graders, loaders, sweepers, blowers, and ARFF vehicles
  • Conduct snow and ice control, pavement repair, sweeping, striping, ditching, brushing, and drainage work
  • Install and repair signs, fences, guardrails, lighting, and other roadway and airport components
  • Perform Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) duties, including standby support, training, and equipment upkeep
  • Conduct runway inspections, friction testing, and wildlife hazard management; issue NOTAMs as needed
  • Carry out airport security inspections per the Airport Security Program (ASP)
  • Complete required documentation and reports, including timesheets, work logs, inspection forms, and wildlife tracking

Special Note: ARFF training, including a comprehensive 40-hour course, medical evaluation, and fit testing for self-contained breathing apparatus, will be provided on the job.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED
This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383), to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties, and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.

Equipment Operator Lead Journey 3
A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an N-Tanker endorsement without an Airbrake restriction, is required at time of hire. A conditional hire approval can be given to applicants that do not yet possess the required endorsement. This means that the proposed appointee must successfully obtain the N Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

This position requires the use of firearm or ammunition. If you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence you may not hold a position in this job class in accordance with the Federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 (PL-104-208). A "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence" means an offense that:

is a misdemeanor under Federal or State Law; and

has, as an element the use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a deadly weapon, committed by a current or former spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim, by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common, by a person who is cohabiting with or has cohabited with the victim as a spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim.
