The department presents a unique career opportunity as a Civil Engineer I,II or III. This position will assist the City Engineer in the planning and development of future roadway, stormwater, and utility projects, and coordinate tasks within larger construction, maintenance, or rehabilitation projects for the city. This position requires use of local, state, and federal specifications and regulations for the development of projects. Work requires the use of technical expertise, judgment, and discretion. Work involves considerable contact with the public, contractors, and other City employees. May oversee contracts for various third-party service providers (e.g., contracts for testing, surveying, engineering, construction, and inspections for various City projects).

Civil Engineer I
- Five years of relevant work experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties
- 1 year of supervisory experience
- Valid NC Drivers License and good driving record
Civil Engineer II
- Requires graduation from an ABET accredited college or university with a degree in engineering or related field;
- Two years or more of progressive experience in engineering;
- Engineer intern certification required, registration as a Professional Engineer is preferred; and
- Valid NC Drivers License and good driving record.
Civil Engineer III
- Bachelors degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college or university;
- Four years or more of progressive engineering experience;
- Registration as Professional Engineer; and
- Valid NC Drivers License and good driving record.
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. Paid bi-weekly.
