Technician II - Carpenter Shop

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Technician II to join our Facilities Maintenance team. This position is responsible for performing complex carpentry tasks, including the construction, installation, and repair of County buildings and structures. The Technician II works independently or collaboratively as part of a team and may serve as a backup to the supervisor, including assigning daily tasks and overseeing the work of other tradesworkers during the supervisors absence.
  • Construct, install, and repair building components such as walls, doors, roofing systems, cabinetry, and related structures

  • Operate a variety of hand tools and power tools safely and effectively

  • Assist with basic plumbing and electrical maintenance as needed

  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and building plans to complete projects accurately

  • Estimate project costs and timelines; track labor and material usage

  • Utilize software systems such as Cartegraph for work order management and Excel for data tracking and reporting

  • Order supplies and materials, verify invoice accuracy, and coordinate with vendors and suppliers

  • Maintain organized records of work performed, materials used, and costs incurred

  • Follow all workplace safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements

  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and internal/external stakeholders

  • Requires any combination of a high school diploma or GED, and at least two years of carpentry, general construction or related work

  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record

  • Strong carpentry skills, with the ability to handle both routine and complex construction tasks

  • Familiarity with basic plumbing and electrical systems related to facility maintenance

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience using work order systems (e.g., Cartegraph) and spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel)

  • Excellent time management, organizational, and record-keeping skills

  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics

  • Knowledge of procurement procedures and materials tracking

  • Commitment to workplace safety and proper tool/equipment usage
