Code Compliance Inspector III Electrical

Inspection and plans review work enforcing adopted codes, zoning ordinances and related regulations.

  • Perform building code and/or fire code related inspections within the areas of licenses and certifications listed in the minimum qualifications. Inspect all phases of building construction including; new construction, repairs, additions and alterations during construction progress and after completion for conformity with the Florida Building Codes, National Electrical Code, Florida Fire Prevention Codes and in compliance with the approved plans and specifications. On-site inspections also require inspection for compliance with the Citys Land Development Code. Confer with owners, contractors, and design professionals concerning construction work and corrections to be made when deficiencies are discovered.
  • Perform plan review in the areas of building construction within the area(s) of licenses and certifications listed in the minimum qualifications. All plan reviews will verify compliance with applicable codes. Confer with owners, contractors and design professionals concerning installations and corrections to be made when deficiencies are discovered.
  • Conduct inspections of existing occupancies for potential fire and life safety hazards and compliance with the Florida Fire Prevention Code and Florida Building Code.
  • Conduct inspections of fire protection systems and devices within area(s) of certifications, in building and structures within the municipality such as: fire sprinklers, heat and smoke detectors and other private fire protection devices.
  • Be available on-call for after-hours responses and call-back during emergency operations.
  • Prepare code enforcement cases to present before the Citys Code Enforcement Board and the Circuit Court.
  • Provide testimony in court and before the Citys Code Enforcement Board.
  • Investigate and report on complaints received from any concerned person, group or agency on matters concerning hazardous conditions, practices or code enforcement violations.
  • Conduct investigations of fires to determine origin and cause.
  • Perform complex plans review in accordance with adopted codes.
  • Produce electronic and handwritten reports.
  • Drive to and from City work sites.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
  • Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

BUILDING/FIRE:

  • Must have and maintain three (3) standard inspector level licenses/certifications and two (2) standard plan review licenses; or Demonstrate within ninety (90) days that the criteria established by the State of Florida BCAI Board to be provisionally licensed as an inspector in three (3) disciplines and provisionally licensed as a plans examiner in two (2) disciplines has been met.
  • Experience performing basic plans review
  • Basic computer skills

ELECTRICAL:

  • Must have and maintain:
    • Standard License as a BCAIB Commercial Electrical Inspector; and
    • Standard License as a BCAIB Electrical Plans Examiner; or
    • Demonstrate that the criteria established by the State of Florida BCAI Board to be provisionally licensed as a Commercial Electrical, Electrical Plans Examiner has been met.
  • Experience performing electrical field installations in commercial and residential construction.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must live within a 30-mile radius of City Hall located at 225 Newburyport Avenue within one (1) year of employment.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Valid driver license. Must obtain State of Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • State of Florida Fire Safety Inspector Certification. (Must be acquired within eighteen (18) months of date of employment)
  • Electrical Only: Standard or Provisional license as a BCAI Building Inspector. (Must be acquired within twenty-four (24) months of date of employment)
  • Electrical Only: Completion of the Florida Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Program (FEAT) or equivalent
  • Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies.

Actual required certification/license categories will be based on the needs of BFSD.

Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and acriminal background screening.

Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).
