Duties

Help

Plots results of all field surveys and prepares them for tracing and reproduction.

Completes plans for proposed projects; such as new structures, building alterions, and shop work to be performed the local level with institution funds.

Completes computer-aided drawings to be submitted to the regional office for approval and funding.

Furnishes additional instructions as requested by employees and inmes about work steps and assists journeyman mechanics in the interpretion of blueprints when necessary.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others

Qualificions

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualificion requirements.

Basic Requirements:

Experience:

Specialized Experience (for positions GS-4 or equivalent and above): Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estiming, physical science, mhemics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.

Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:

Planner and estimor who analyzed designs for production purposes.

Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabriced.

Certificion:

Engineering technicians may be certified by the Nional Institute for Certificion in Engineering Technologies, an organizion sponsored by the Nional Society of Professional Engineers. Certificion by the Institute helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.

In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, applicants must have:

There is no substitution of educion for specialized experience for this position.

Experience:

You must have least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualificions to successfully perform the duties of the position, and must typically be in or reled to the position to be filled.

Some examples of this qualifying experience are:

Experience developing sketches and drawings of new and existing structures, and rough drafts of proposed projects.

Must be proficient in utilizing automed software as it pertains to maintenance management and computer aided design.

Experience in performing cost estiming, preparion of justificion for excessive cost and estiming work th is to be performed.

If applicable, credit given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as number of hours worked per week) spent in the activities.

In accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3307, a maximum entry age of 36 has been established for initial appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution.

The representive re for this position is $84,958 per annum ($40.71 per hour).

Special Conditions of Employment Section:

Appointment is subject to sisfactory completion of a urinalysis, physical, and background investigion. All applicants are subject to Nional Crime Informion Center (NCIC) and credit checks.

All applicants not currently working in an institution required to complete a qualificion inquiry regarding convictions of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence in order to be authorized to carry a firearm.

The Core Value Assessment (CVA) is an in-person assessment th must be facilited a Bureau of Prisons Human Resource Servicing office. On the day of the scheduled interview, a CVA administered. The applicant assessment must be completed within a 70 minute time period and a passing score must be obtained. Further employment considerion will not be extended if the applicant fails to complete the examinion or fails to achieve a passing score. Note: The Core Value Assessment will not be administered to current BOP employees.

Successful completion of the "Introduction to Correctional Techniques," three-week training course Glynco, Georgia is required.
