Summary
Valley County is looking for a Public Works Engineer to represent and manage the countys Road & Bridge Department. This pivotal role is responsible for the comprehensive oversight of all county roads and bridges, from planning and design, to construction, maintenance, repair, and snow removal.

The Public Works Engineer has a broad range of responsibilities encompassing the entire lifecycle of the county's transportation infrastructure. This includes not only the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and repair of all roads, but also the critical inspection, repair, and replacement of bridges and culverts.
The engineer is tasked with developing comprehensive annual work plans and budgets for both road and bridge projects, prioritizing needs based on structural integrity assessments, traffic volume, and available funding. The successful candidate will typically possess a bachelors degree in civil engineering from an accredited program. Essential qualifications include licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE), or the immediate eligibility to obtain PE licensure through comity with the state of Idaho.
Candidates should possess several years of progressive experience in civil engineering, with a strong emphasis on road and bridge design, construction, maintenance, and repair, preferably within a municipal or county government setting. Key competencies include a thorough understanding of engineering principles, project management, budgeting, and a working knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations (e.g., AASHTO standards, MUTCD).
