BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P QI SUBSTATION & METER INSTRUMENT & CONTROL Department of the P SUBSTATION & METER Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: NON-EXEMPT)

JOB FUNCTION:

Performs telemetry and control systems work on analog and digital interface equipment. Maintains, installs, removes, inspects, services and programs instrumentation systems, control systems, microprocessor based systems, test equipment and standards. Troubleshoots all equipment to the system level.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

As an Electrician (&C) at the maximum level, performs the following duties.

As an Electrician (I&C) at lower levels, performs the following duties under direction or direct supervision in accordance with the various stages of training.

  • Assembles, installs, removes, inspects, services, wires, tests, repairs, calibrates, and programs all types of instruments, telemetering equipment and devices, such as instrument transformers, transducers, etc. on Company or customers premises.
  • Maintains, tests, repairs, calibrates, and programs indicating and recording devices, sensing units and standards.
  • Maintains relays, instruments and equipment associated with voltage regulators and capacitor bank controls.
  • Uploads and downloads data from various monitoring devices.
  • Utilizes computers and related programs to perform the duties of the position, such as troubleshooting equipment to the system level.
  • Maintains adequate inventories of spare parts.
  • Prepares new and updates old drawings, records and reports.
  • Maintains all equipment under I&C Section jurisdiction in good operating condition.
  • Directs the work and trains personnel in lower classifications on any or all of the above operations.
  • Drives Company vehicle.
  • Attend trainings, workshops and seminars to obtain certifications and licenses as needed which will maintain and expand knowledge base, comprehend and realize new technologies and increase functionality and responsibility within the I&C Department
  • Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
  • Performs some responsibilities of the T324, Electrician (Communication), T276 Electrician (Substation), T277 Electrician (Electrical & Welding Services), T309 Sr. Meter Electrician (Meter), and/or T310 Electrician (Relay).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have or be able to qualify for State of Hawaii drivers license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish the difference between colors, including shades, hues, and tints. (for electrician related positions)
  • Must pass Company Job Sample Test.
  • Must pass Company Written Job Knowledge Test.
  • Graduate of applicable apprentice program OR an Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technical or Engineering school OR equivalent training and experience AND
  • Must have 3 years minimum work experience in installing, testing, calibrating, troubleshooting, programming, and repair of electrical/electronic/computer equipment; preferably, but not limited to supervisory control equipment, remote terminal unit (RTU), and stand alone radio remote terminal units and systems; analog and digital indicating and recording instrument, test equipment, transducers, standards, battery chargers, and tap-changer controls.
