At Sumter Maintenance, supervises a maintenance crew in performing asphalt pavement repairs in such areas as full-depth patching, leveling, pothole repair and driveway installation. Supervises crew In the installation and repair of various pipes used for cross-line and driveways. Supervises crew performing work request completion. Responsible for training and knowledge carry-over to subordinate !employees in all applicable facets of Maintenance. Maintains weekly and monthly reports, time sheets and cost records; recommends personnel actions including promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures; rates employee yearly according to the Employee Performance Management System. Responsible for determining proper repairs for indvidual roadway definciencies to include asphalt quantity generation and placement via rate calculations and securing confirmation from RME and HQ as needed for the solutions requiring specialized means and methods. Performs on-call duties for after hour emergencies for one week by rotation. Supervises and coordinates a crew in the removal of snow and ice from roadways and bridges during inclement weather events. Serves as lead foreman during snow/ice assistance to Cherokee County and during hurricane assistance to Berkley County. Oversees the stockpile materials used for roadway repairs such as emulsion, aggregates and pipe. Operates specialized grade control instruments to determine and control line and grade for roadway alignment. Four (4) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operators license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis. Abiltiy to work in a team environment and provide quality customer service. May be required to work overtime, nights, weekends and holidays to handle traffic hazards and inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time. Requires lifting, standing, stooping, bending, and physical strain. Works overtime as necessary.
May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
