Position Overview:
The Foreman manages the crew on the project and ensures that the assigned tasks are performed in a safe manner, efficiently and according to the project plans and specifications. The Foreman reports all of the labor, equipment, and materials used by the crew each day and evaluates actual costs compared to the budget. This position requires an advanced knowledge of construction activities which include but is not limited to: earth moving operations, utility installation, paving operations and traffic control. Strong communication skills are important as this individual is responsible for training and developing staff, solving daily issues with inspectors, and negotiating daily payment quantities with inspectors or Engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the safety of the crew at all times by complying with Rifenburg Companies' Safety Polices.
- Inventory materials for upcoming work to ensure materials are on hand when needed
- Review schedule and plan and coordinate daily operations with Superintendent with an outlook to the upcoming day(s).
- Protection of the equipment fleet and ensure that daily maintenance is completed
- Ability to look ahead and solve upcoming issues with inspection staff before delays occur
- Meet productivity requirements of the budget
- Record and agree on payment quantities installed that day by the crew with Inspector
- Develop future leaders by modeling appropriate behavior and helping employees to develop job task skills.
- Analyze crew cost information to ensure that the crew operates within budget
- Record labor and equipment hours daily for the crew

Experience/Education
This position requires a full understanding of construction activities which is typically gained with five or more years of construction experience. Those individuals holding a higher education degree may be able to count those years as experience.
Required Skills
- OSHA 10-hour certification required. Understanding, communicating and implementing safe work practices. OSHA 30-hour training is preferred.

Supervisor Responsibilities
This individual will supervise a crew of two to twelve individuals. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
