We're hiring a Maintenance Mechanic 2 to join our team at the Special Commitment Center (SCC) on McNeil Island. The Special Commitment Center programs provide specialized mental health treatment for civilly committed sex offenders who have completed their prison sentences.

Working hours are 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.

Ferry transportation is provided to and from McNeil Island and Steilacoom.

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

SCC employees also receive an additional $10 per day premium pay in addition to advertised salary and a free ORCA card for transportation use.

You'll perform a variety of skilled professional-level work in the maintenance, repair, and remodeling of buildings, grounds, machinery, mechanical/electrical systems, and HVAC equipment. We are looking for those who will utilize their professional skills in fields such as plumbing, electrical, fabrication, carpentry, and mechanical work. You'll diagnose, make recommendations, and perform repairs.

Some of what you'll do

  • Preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment such as electrical motors, laundry, kitchen, laboratory, and air-conditioning equipment; changes oil, greases, changes or cleans filters, drive belts, sprockets, shafts, and bearings to ensure proper operation.
  • Performs maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical, mechanical, and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution.
  • Monitor safety, fire protection and environmental control equipment to ensure the building systems and equipment are operating in a satisfactory condition.
  • Perform general carpentry, safely hanging and repairing drywall; prepare for and perform painting
  • Perform building and equipment condition assessment, reports, recommends work as needed.
  • Operates power and motorized equipment such as weed trimmers, chain saws, backpack blowers, rototillers, light tractors, small trucks, lawn mowers, sweepers, aerators, and snow blowers.
  • This role supports a 24-hour operation, this is an emergent position that may be subject to short notice overtime, recall and on-call status.

Who should apply

Those with high school graduation or GED, and 4 years of experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work, or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade.

Desired

  • Professionals with knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used to perform journey level work.
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools, the ability to use a forklift, and strong carpentry skills.
  • Ability to work with blueprints, plans, sketches, and drawings.
  • Ability to efficiently communicate with management, peers, clients, and the public as required to carry out the assigned duties of the position.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of facility procedures, and workplace practices.
