Under direct supervision of the Grounds supervisor, performs ground maintenance duties involving the operation of various types of heavy equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operates any combination of following heavy motorized equipment to complete a variety of grounds maintenance projects, (i.e., front end loader, bump heater, cherry picker, 4-6 ton compactor, 7 ton dozer, excavator, over 23,000 pound grader, low-boy, mid jack, pull type paves, pavement grinder, 8-10 ton roller, truck mounted sewer cleaner, steamer, hand & hot liner striper, 10 ton sweeper, lowboy 10 ton tractor, 25,000 to 35,000 pound dump truck, all vac-all sweeper, 10 ton vactor-jet & computerized weed spray truck). Also operates any or all pieces of equipment operated by Equipment Operator I as needed.
• Makes minor repairs & adjustments to heavy motorized equipment (i.e., greases and oils machinery, checks tires and lights).
• Performs general labor, maintenance and other paperwork as needed. May be required to perform duties of a groundkeeper on an as needed basis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of safety practices associated with the operation of heavy motorized equipment; carry out oral and written instructions, demonstrate physical fitness.
• Ability to calculate fractions, decimals, percentages, read and write common vocabulary plus 300 hours training safety practices and in operation of heavy motorized equipment or six months experience.
• Must have a valid Ohio Commercial Driver's License in accordance with section 4506.01 of revised code.
• Ability to work outside under all weather conditions; may work with potentially dangerous equipment and chemicals.
• Accuracy and attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
• Ability to use machinist's measuring equipment.
• Ability to accurately and safely drive a forklift.
• Maintain good housekeeping practices and follow safety rules.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Experience: 1-3 years of experience as a machine operator with knowledge and use of machine measuring equipment.
