Duties: Manages the maintenance operation of the Parks Division of the Parks and Recreation Department. Supervises and coordinates activity of personnel in maintaining City's park system as well as manage the Parks capital improvement projects. Oversees the maintenance of 47 parks, encompassing over 800 acres. Provides for maintenance of grounds, facilities within the parks, as well as esplanades and right of way. Oversees capital improvement projects from design through final payment to include project evaluation, programing, schematics, construction cost estimating and specification development, contract bidding and approval of payments. Develops short and long term construction plans and recommend personnel, equipment and/or materials for inclusion in the budget. Works cooperatively with key Parks and Recreation staff management and other City departments on various activities. Responds to inquiries/complaints from public and City officials. Assist with public relations by giving informational speeches to various groups. Performs personnel related duties including recommendations for hiring; training; coaching; performance evaluations; and discipline. Ensures the upholding of current spraying licenses required. Plans/prepares goals and objectives and makes recommendations to Director. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy.
Qualifications: Bachelor degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Landscape Architecture, or related field, from an accredited four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of three years of experience in a management level position. Texas Driver's License and a good driving record. Knowledge of progressive management skills to coordinate personnel and projects. Knowledge of equipment, sprinkler systems, chemicals and fertilizers. Ability to multi-task; plan and prepare bid specifications, cost estimating; and draft policies, agreements, contracts etc. Must possess strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills. Must possess a high level of ethics and dedication to the profession. Computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel. PREFERRED: Bilingual (English/Spanish) is desired.
