Summary - The incumbent in this position directs the sourcing and procurement of material, components, and services within the cost parameters defined, within the delivery requirements requested, and within the technical and quality specifications.This role involves leading and managing overall supply chain activities for assigned projects, creating and executing optimized procurement strategies, and negotiating with suppliers on technical and commercial issues. In addition, the incumbent provides direct supervision to Buyers and direction to Engineering Administration Team on purchasing matters.
Responsibilities -
Directs and leads Purchasing Department personnel and activities to achieve department goals for (1) quality costs, (2) material costs, (3) material delivery requirements, and (4) SBA initiatives
Participate in group wide Strategic Sourcing activities to achieve material cost reductions based on historical pricing
Lead and manage supply chain activities for assigned projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services
Provide guidance and support to the procurement team to achieve departmental goal
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand their procurement needs and requirements
Forecast material purchase dollars and material cost reductions
Conduct reviews and dialog reviews in accordance with defined schedules and directions
Provide direction for the implementation of strategic agreements with major suppliers
Direct Purchasing Department to proactively provide feedback to Engineering on material issues that can lead to more cost-effective designs and/or other enhancements that will improve the competitive position of Voith Hydro North America
Provide process and plan to OTO and OTC on make/buy decisions
Support proposal activities by providing price information and purchasing strategy
Provide quality feedback to suppliers and serve as interface between suppliers and internal customers
Conduct detailed lessons learned, problem solving, and continuous improvement activities with the sole purposes of improving Quality, On-Time Delivery Performance, Best Cost Solutions, and internal customer satisfaction.
Support Group purchasing initiatives and provide timely feedback on purchasing/material issues. Report progress on Purchasing goals/initiatives on a regular basis
Interact with Project Management on a regular basis to support specific project initiatives relative to purchase of material/services. Provide direct support to resolve material quality issues and collect back charges as warranted.
Qualifications -
Bachelor Degree in Business Management, Operations, or Engineering with specific training in purchasing of custom engineered products
Five years' experience in procurement or supply chain management of direct, custom engineered goods or services in a company of comparable size and complexity
Thorough knowledge of purchasing and supply chain functions
Knowledge and experience in Project Management
Specialized training and demonstrated skill in supplier development, strategic sourcing, process analysis, & leadership
Good understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint software
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with supply chain information systems (i.e. SAP, Primavera, etc.)
Self-motivated, self-directed, attention to detail, thoroughness, team player, ability to plan and follow through. Creativity in problem solving and an ability to work effectively with and through others.
CPM and experience in the power generation industry is a plus
Physical Demands -
Employees in this position are regularly required to walk, stand and use hands to finger, handle or feel. They are frequently required to reach with hands and arms. They are occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear and regularly required to lift 10 pounds and occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds. Travel is required.
