YOUR IMPACT
As a member of the TASER Electrical Engineering team, you will engage in rigorous hands-on design, development, testing, and debug of cutting-edge electronics that are integral to AXON TASER Products. Your technical experience, engineering curiosity, and own-it attitude will be critical to successful designs that meet the challenging requirements demanded by our customers. Not only will you apply your engineering creativity while owning electronics designs, but you will collaborate with cross-discipline connections around the globe to realize truly World-Class products. WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Engage with and support the TASER electrical engineering team in the design, development, testing, debugging, and build of new products throughout the development cycle.
- Engage with peers and senior electrical engineers to develop and deliver robust electronic designs.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop test plans and define test methods for evaluating and validating designs.
- Bring up, characterize, and debug systems and circuits using lab tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, power supplies, hi-pot testers, etc.
- Optimize performance of electronics designs using simulation tools and hands-on measurements.
- Evaluate and document design outcomes, test results, and related information, then present findings to the design teams for review and further action.
- Review and assess product design requirements and help to develop system requirements documentation.
- Design embedded mixed-signal electronic circuits using OrCAD schematic tools, integrating elements such as high-voltage power supplies, microcontrollers, lighting and display drivers, memory (FLASH/EEPROM), switch-mode and linear regulators, batteries, high and low-speed data interfaces (USBx, UART, SPI, I2C), RF transceivers, electromechanical transducers, and various analog and digital discrete components.
- Team with PCB engineers to define, plan, implement, and inspect printed circuit board layout designs using Allegro or other layout tools.
- Participate in design reviews and inspections with the engineering team, offering constructive feedback and identifying potential design issues.
- Collaborate with component suppliers and development partners to select, evaluate, and approve electronic components and designs.
- Develop, evaluate, and help finalize assembly drawings, bill of materials, test requirements documents, and other design documentation needed for product release.
- Evaluate performance of circuits and assess compliance to product and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct research, propose, and develop innovative, industry-leading circuit designs for products such as TASER energy weapons, TASER-enabled devices, wirelessly connected TASER products, and related accessories.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar engineering discipline.
- Strong academic performance in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong foundational knowledge supported by top-tier academic performance.
- Ability to apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges through labs, internships, or personal projects.
- Strong proficiency with basic discrete analog and digital circuit design; including, passive/active components, circuit analysis, transistor operation, driving LEDs, different types of diodes and use cases, etc.
- Demonstrated electronics circuit design/integration experience in one or more of the following areas: Microcontroller integration, memory components, power supplies, battery integration, high/low speed communication buses, sensors, LEDs and drivers, audio circuitry.
- Familiar with power supply design (Switch mode, linear regulator).
- Experienced with hands-on electronics bring-up, characterization, and debug experience using laboratory tools required: Oscilloscope, power supplies, multimeters, etc.
- Familiar with reading and analyzing electronic component datasheets and other engineering design documentation.
- Familiar with documentation, analysis, and presentations tools, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience developing an embedded hardware system (through capstone project, internship, or other) with a cross-functional team (EE/FW/ME) and demonstrated success
- Schematic design experience using standard industry schematic entry tools such as Cadence/OrCAD Capture.
- Experience collaborating with PCB engineers to develop, review, and inspect PCB designs. Experience with Allegro Viewer a plus.
- Understanding of common power supply topologies and types (buck, boost, buck/boost, LDOs, etc.) and the benefits and trade-offs involved with using each.
- Experienced using soldering tools for hand population of PCBs or replacement of components during troubleshooting.
- Experience collaborating with electronics component manufacturer(s) and third party design support
- Some experience integrating wireless systems such as Bluetooth
