MAJOR FUNCTION:

Are you passionate about architecture and engineering? In this role, you'll play a key part in reviewing residential and commercial building plans to ensure they meet all relevant building codes and accepted engineering standards for your assigned area. What you'll do:

• Conduct comprehensive reviews of building, architectural, and construction plans to ensure compliance with State minimum building, fire, handicap, energy codes, and applicable ordinances prior to permit issuance.
• Confer with contractors, architects, engineers, property owners, and City personnel regarding code compliance, interpretation, and technical questions, escalating non-routine issues to supervisors.
• Review and approve plans, verify contractor licenses, calculate permit fees, and issue building permits.
• Provide assistance and guidance to the general public and departmental staff on permit requirements, code enforcement, and related fees.
• Prepare and maintain technical records, reports, and conduct Type A Site Plan reviews to address and reconcile code compliance issues.

Minimum Training & Experience

• Have a High School Diploma or GED

AND

• Have at least five (5) years of technical work experience as a plans examiner, building construction estimator, State of Florida licensed general, building or residential contractor, or building construction supervisor

OR

• Have a two (2) year degree in architectural, building construction, or engineering technology

AND

• Have at least three (3) years of technical work experience as a plans examiner, building construction estimator, State of Florida licensed general, building or residential contractor, or building construction supervisor

Necessary Special Requirements

Must possess, at the time of appointment, a Standard Building Inspector License and Plans Examiner License issued by the State of Florida, or must meet eligibility requirements to obtain a Provisional Building Inspector License and Provisional Plans Examiner License issued by the State of Florida at the time of appointment. Individuals hired under the provisional license option must obtain a Standard Building Inspector License and Plans Examiner License issued by the State of Florida within one year of appointment, as a condition of continued employment.

Salary Range

$20.8354 to $56.5383/hourly. Hiring rate generally will not exceed $35.3398/hour
