Job Specifications
MAJOR FUNCTION:
Step into a role where your expertise powers entire systems-this is advanced electrical work at the journeyman level, where precision, problem-solving, and independence define each day. From installations to intricate repairs, you'll navigate complex electrical challenges with skill, often leading the charge through inspections and diagnostics with minimal supervision.
What You Will Do:
In this hands-on role, you'll install, maintain, and repair electrical systems across terminals, runways, and high-voltage circuits. You'll work on everything from emergency generators and lighting to HVAC controls and fire safety systems-often independently, using your judgment to solve problems on the spot.
You will:
- Maintain emergency generators, transfer switches, airfield lighting circuits, chiller systems, fire alarm, sprinkler, and pump systems, and related equipment
- Assist with preventative maintenance on all electrical systems, electrical equipment, and lighting
- Repair and maintain electrical systems associated with HVAC systems, including thermostats and control circuits
- Calibrate electrical systems and equipment as necessary
- Inspect electrical lighting and power systems to ensure compliance with FAA and OSHA.
- Prepare and maintain all required reports, records on specifications, diagrams, manuals, and warranties.
- Purchase equipment and materials needed for applicable work tasks.

Minimum Training & Experience
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED
- Three years of journey level experience that includes the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial or residential electrical systems and equipment
Necessary Special Requirements
- Class E State driver's license at the time of appointment
- Designated positions allocated to this class require possession of a City of Tallahassee Journeyman or higher electrician's license
- In accordance with 49 CFR Part 1542, employees MUST successfully complete a fingerprint-based criminal history records check and personal background check prior to employment.
Salary Range
$17.9790 to $48.7873/hourly. Hiring rate generally will not exceed $32.0136/hour

What We're Looking For:
- Strong knowledge of electrical trade practices, tools, materials, and safety procedures
- Familiarity with airport electrical schematics and high-voltage runway lighting systems
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical instructions
- Detail-oriented, safety-minded, and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Experienced with installing, maintaining, and repairing complex electrical systems
- Skilled in diagnosing and fixing electrical issues quickly and effectively
- Comfortable in designing and building custom airport circuitry when needed
