Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide the learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of the course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning.

Career and Technical Education (CTE)/Continuing Education (CE) adjunct faculty are hired in a part-time capacity on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the System. Lone Star College accepts application material year-round from qualified applicants willing to teach on a part-time basis. Adjunct (part-time) faculty hiring is based on student demand. We offer day, evening, and weekend classes. Classes are offered at various times and locations during the academic year. As a rule, CTE/CE instructors may not work in excess of 19.5 hours each week. Applications submitted on-line are accessed and reviewed by hiring managers as the need to hire arises. T is normally no communication with applicants unless they are selected for an interview.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Teaches Electrical Worker courses at a variety of times and locations

Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner

Develops and/or utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines

Meets with and advises students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods

Evaluates students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and informs students in a timely manner of their progress

Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community

Continuously improves instructional quality by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques and delivery methods

Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required

Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of all aspects of the electrical worker trade

Mastery of NCCER course content

Skills in project leadership; style that emphasizes collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation

Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning

Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning

Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills

Familiarity with MS Office software

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.

WORK SCHEDULE & CONDITIONS:

Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment

Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position

Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

Hours will vary depending on class time; Instructors are required to meet with classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of class instruction

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED

Minimum of 4 years of documented Electrician's experience at the journeyman level, including at least 1 year in a leadership/supervisory role and verify the various responsibilities undertaken in the discharge of those duties OR

Minimum 3 years of experience as a certified teacher in a vocational / technical construction or maintenance related training program

Possess an Electrical Worker Journeyman credential or equivalent

Possess an NCCER Instructor certification or be willing to complete NCCER Instructor Certification Training Program (ICTP), and obtain the appropriate certification from NCCER in the CORE and the Carpentry Craft area

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate degree

One year of technical training of field personnel in Electrical Working, including experience in adapting training techniques to students of both technical and non-technical backgrounds

Experience working with operations personnel

Salary

$58.05 per contact hour.
