Duties Description Install and maintain electrical systems including but not limited to, Card Access, lighting, and HVAC controls. Install and maintain electrical systems using blueprints, installation manuals, and the National Electric Code. Respond to repair requests in a timely, efficient and customer-friendly manner. Complete projects on schedule. Repair, maintain and install lighting fixtures, bulbs, ballasts, outlets, switches, and other electrical equipment. Assembles and installs electrical boxes, wire, conduit, cable and wiremold. Assembles materials, tools and equipment required to complete the work according to plan. Use of hand tools, power tools, ladders, scaffolds, man lifts and cutting tool as well as electrical testing equipment. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Non-competitive: Four years of full-time experience in the electrical trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Electrician) traineeship or a two-year electrician training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program. * Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific class room instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of "C" or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training. A completed application is required to be considered for this position. All applicants must meet at least one of the above requirements. Operational needs: Ability to install, test and maintain card reader / door access systems preferred; experience with 13 KV switch gear and motor and motor control diagnostics preferred; ability to test and maintain Emergency Lighting Systems, including Generators and UPS Systems, install control and electrical distribution including wiring, switches, relays and circuit breaker panels; ability to work overtime as required for emergencies and special campus events; willingness to be trained in and utilize best management practices for hazardous materials handling / disposal, confined space entry, fall protection, use of scaffolding and other occupational safety training; experience in supervision / leading a crew for project work preferred.
