General Laborer in construction

A General Laborer in construction is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to support construction projects. These tasks may include clearing and preparing construction sites, assisting site supervisors, handling materials, operating basic construction equipment, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. The position involves manual labor and requires physical strength, stamina, and the ability to follow instructions and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

-Assist in the preparation and cleaning of construction sites, including removing debris, dirt, and rubble.

-Load and unload construction materials, tools, and equipment.

-Carry materials, tools, and supplies to the worksite.

-Set up and break down scaffolding, ladders, and temporary structures.

-Mix, pour, and spread concrete, mortar, or other materials.

-Assist skilled tradespeople with their tasks, including holding materials in place and fetching tools.

-Operate basic machinery (e.g., power drills, concrete mixers, forklifts) under supervision.

-Maintain a clean and organized job site, ensuring it is free of hazards.

-Follow safety procedures and report any unsafe conditions or accidents to supervisors.

-Assist in maintaining inventory of tools and materials.

-Perform basic maintenance and repair tasks on tools and equipment.

-Comply with local building codes, safety standards, and regulations.

Physical Requirements:

-Frequently lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance.

-Stand, walk, bend, squat, and kneel for extended periods, often for an entire shift (8+ hours).

-Work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.

-Use hands and fingers for a variety of tasks such as gripping tools, lifting, and handling materials.

-Work on uneven surfaces, scaffolding, ladders, and other elevated structures.

-Perform tasks such as digging, lifting, and carrying that require both upper and lower body strength.

Skills and Qualifications:

-High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

-Previous construction labor experience is a plus but not required.

-Basic knowledge of construction tools and materials is beneficial.

-Ability to follow directions and safety guidelines.

-Strong work ethic and team-oriented attitude.

-Ability to work under pressure and in varying weather conditions.

Additional Requirements:

-Successful completion of a background check.

-Must pass a full panel drug screen prior to employment and periodically thereafter, as required by company policy.

Working Conditions:

-Outdoor construction sites, often with exposure to the elements.

-Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, gloves, and steel-toe boots is required.

-Ongoing physical labor and manual tasks.

-May involve working at heights or in confined spaces.
