Diesel Mechanic Job Description A Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, including trucks, buses, and heavy machinery. This role involves performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, replacing parts, and ensuring optimal performance and safety. Responsibilities Conduct thorough inspections to identify mechanical and electrical issues. Run diagnostic tests to pinpoint problems within diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, and other components. Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections. Repair or replace faulty parts, including engines, transmissions, fuel systems, and other mechanical components. Diagnose and repair issues across various systems, including hydraulics, brakes, transmissions, steering, and electrical systems. Maintain detailed records of all services, repairs, and parts inventory, ensuring accurate documentation for each vehicle. Adhere to safety regulations and company policies, ensuring a clean and safe working environment. Consult with customers to understand issues and explain repairs when applicable. Perform welding or fabrication tasks on trailers and other equipment as necessary. Essential Skills Proficiency in diesel engine repair and maintenance. Strong diagnostic skills for mechanical and electrical issues. Experience with hydraulic, brake, transmission, steering, and electrical systems. Ability to maintain detailed records and documentation. Knowledge of safety regulations and ability to adhere to company policies.
