Basic Job Functions:Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
The Project Engineer reports to the Engineering Supervisor and is responsible for executing capital projects, including, developing scope, schedule, and budget documents for projects and managing engineers, contractors, and other resources during the project. The Project Engineer also partners with maintenance and reliability teams to develop PM strategies, conduct rootcause analyses, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This position requires a strong mechanical ability, as well as, excellent organization and communication skills. Minimum Requirements:- Bachelor of Science degree Mechanical or Mining Engineering/Engineering Technology/Engineering Applied Sciences preferred, but lesser degrees with equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum 10+ years experience in heavy industrial plant engineering, with design, construction, and commissioning experience and proven project management techniques.
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems such as pumps, screw conveyors, sand screws, water tables, ball mills, wet magnets, and/or vibratory screeners is required. Knowledge of bulk material handling, process piping, and metal recovery techniques will be beneficial.
- Familiarity with 3-phase electric, industrial power distribution, and PLCs is preferred.
- Experience in the Recycling or Mining or industries is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and/or written communication skills with all levels of personnel within the Company and outside vendors and suppliers.
- Proven ability with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and AutoCAD.
- Ability to organize large projects and take the lead role of the projects design, procurement, construction, and start-up activities.
- Ability to travel 40%.
- Creates project scope / budget / schedule documents. Prepares drawings, procures equipment, selects contractors, plans work, and assures safe practices on assigned projects.
- Coordinates and manages projects including field installations, start-up of new equipment, and modifications to existing plants and equipment. Tracks project scope, cost, and schedule and distributes monthly update reports.
- Develops new processing methods and modifications identified by plant operating management to reduce cost and increase efficiency and profitability.
- Recommends modifications to plant layout, equipment, and/or processes to plant management that include layout, engineering design, cost estimates, and procedures.
- Provides engineering consultation for plant maintenance. Obtains and analyzes field data. Establishes direction for cost-effective resolution of problems.
- Performs other duties and manages other types of projects as assigned by the Engineering Supervisor and Engineering Manager.
