Senior Mechanical Engineer

  • Keene, New Hampshire
  • Full Time

A global leader in ultra-precision CNC machine tools is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their advanced engineering team. This is a high-impact role focused on the design and development of cutting-edge mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic subsystems used in industry-leading precision manufacturing platforms. The ideal candidate will bring strong design leadership, deep technical expertise, and a hands-on approach to solving complex engineering challenges from concept to production.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead mechanical design efforts for ultra-precision CNC machine tools, including specification, modeling, and validation of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Electrical, Controls, Service, and Planning) to drive the complete product lifecycle from design through production.

  • Develop 3D CAD models and detailed drawings using SolidWorks to ensure functional, manufacturable, and cost-effective designs.

  • Create and maintain system-level design specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and associated documentation.

  • Manage engineering change orders (ECOs) and contribute to product and design reviews to ensure alignment with quality and performance goals.

  • Perform hands-on hardware verification testing using advanced metrology tools (e.g., laser interferometers, autocollimators, accelerometers) and participate in CNC programming, tuning PID controllers, and system troubleshooting.

  • Interface directly with customers to support installations, field service efforts, and participate in technical discussions and trade shows.

  • Support sourcing activities and monitor vendor compliance with mechanical specifications and quality requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) required; Masters or PhD strongly preferred.

  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably within high-precision equipment or capital machinery industries.

  • Deep understanding of mechanical design principles, materials science, and manufacturing methods for high-accuracy systems.

  • Proficient in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software; experience with PDM systems a plus.

  • Strong analytical skills, including applied knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics.

  • Experience in electro-mechanical systems and the integration of fluid power systems (air and hydraulic).

Preferred Experience:
  • Expertise in the design and modeling of air-bearing and hydrostatic spindles and slides.

  • Familiarity with advanced metrology and diagnostic tools such as Zygo ZeGage, Talysurf, Talyrond, Luphoscan, ME Scope, and Lion Precision systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-disciplinary engineering projects from design through production release.

  • Hands-on experience working with CNC machines and motion control systems in a development or support capacity.

The Offer:

Competitive compensation package, including:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance

  • Paid Time Off (PTO)

  • 401(k) with employer match

  • Opportunities for technical leadership in a collaborative, engineering-first environment
