Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

We are seeking a licensed and experienced Civil Engineer (PE) to join our team for a significant infrastructure project: construction of a pedestrian bridge connecting to the VA Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

This is a 100% on-site position based in San Juan. The engineer will be actively involved in field coordination, inspections, stakeholder meetings, and construction oversight to ensure successful project delivery.

This has been awarded and expected duration of the project is 18 months with possibility of extension.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site inspections and field coordination during all phases of construction.
  • Work closely with architects, contractors, and federal/local agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with VA, AASHTO, ADA, FHWA, and Puerto Rico engineering standards.
  • Review and manage plans, specifications, submittals, and reports.
  • Provide technical input during stakeholder meetings and community briefings.
  • Support civil/structural design for the pedestrian bridge.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Puerto Rico (or able to obtain reciprocity).
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of civil/structural engineering experience , with bridge project experience preferred.
  • Proven experience in preparing detailed technical and progress reports for construction projects
  • Strong familiarity with applicable codes and standards (AASHTO, ADA, FHWA).
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site in San Juan, PR.
