Position Summary
Ambipar is seeking a proactive and highly skilled Safety Manager with a strong background in Hazmat and industrial services to lead and elevate safety initiatives within our Houston operations. This critical role ensures the continuous development, implementation, and enforcement of robust safety programs that align with Ambipars commitment to operational excellence, environmental stewardship, and worker protection. The Safety Manager will work closely with leadership and frontline teams to embed a culture of safety, reduce workplace incidents, and drive compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role includes collaborating directly with Operations Managers and the Ambipar Command Center to ensure safety protocols are integrated seamlessly across all operational activities. Working 12-hour shifts Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend duties, this position demands a hands-on, strategic leader capable of balancing daily operational safety needs with long-term risk management and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in supporting Ambipars business objectives by minimizing risk, enhancing employee engagement around safety, ensuring readiness for audits and inspections, and conducting regular field visits to job sites to observe and address safety practices in action. Prior experience in managing Hazmat operations and industrial service safety programs is essential to effectively mitigate risks unique to these environments.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive safety management systems and programs customized to Ambipars industrial and environmental services operations.
Conduct routine and surprise safety inspections, audits, and field visits across facilities, project sites, and vehicles to identify and mitigate hazards proactively.
Lead and deliver engaging safety training sessions tailored to diverse workforce needs, ensuring all employees understand and comply with safety policies and emergency protocols.
Manage compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory bodies, preparing for and supporting inspections, audits, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses thoroughly to identify root causes and develop corrective and preventive action plans to avoid recurrence.
Maintain and analyze safety metrics and reports, identifying trends and opportunities to improve safety performance and reporting findings to senior management.
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, HR, and environmental teams to integrate safety considerations into all phases of project planning and execution.
Work closely with Operations Managers and the Ambipar Command Center to coordinate safety strategies, share information, and ensure real-time safety oversight across operational activities.
Facilitate hazard identification and risk assessments regularly, including job hazard analyses and safety data evaluations, and recommend engineering or administrative controls.
Promote a proactive safety culture by championing safety communications, awareness campaigns, and incentive programs that encourage employee participation and ownership of safety.
Support workers compensation claims management, ensuring timely reporting, return-to-work coordination, and injury prevention strategies.
Lead emergency preparedness planning and drills, ensuring all personnel are trained and ready to respond to incidents swiftly and effectively.
Drive continuous improvement by staying current with industry best practices, emerging regulations, and technological advancements in safety management.
Provide mentorship and guidance to safety team members and field supervisors to build internal safety leadership capacity.
Assist in budget planning for safety programs and equipment, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources.
Ensure that environmental health and safety goals are aligned with Ambipars sustainability and operational excellence objectives.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in environmental health and safety, Occupational Safety, or related discipline preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive safety management experience in industrial, environmental, Hazmat, or field service settings.
Proven experience managing Hazmat safety programs and understanding the unique risks and regulatory requirements related to hazardous materials.
Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other relevant regulatory standards and safety best practices.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification strongly preferred.
Exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
Strong analytical skills to interpret safety data and develop actionable insights.
Demonstrated experience managing safety-related incident investigations, training programs, and regulatory compliance.
Ability and willingness to conduct frequent field visits and work flexible hours, including occasional weekends, thriving in a fast-paced operational environment.
