We currently have an opportunity for an Underground Superintendent in San Diego, CA. The Underground Superintendent works in partnership with the Project Management teams to build safe, high quality projects. This position is responsible for overseeing management of all water utility pipeline crews and resources which includes labor, equipment, and materials.
ResponsibilitiesLead efforts related to project cost control and financial oversight, including job cost tracking, forecasting, and budget management.
Support the preparation and presentation of monthly financial reports to upper management, including cost analysis, performance metrics, and variance explanations.
Assist in the monthly close process by ensuring timely and accurate reporting of financial data, including WIP (Work-In-Progress) and cash flow reporting.
Monitor costs, prepare cost reports, and maintain forecasts and budgets in accordance with company and project policies and procedures.
Coordinate with project teams and liaise with various departments to drive efficiencies and maintain alignment across business operations.
Provide functional guidance and support to managers for the development, implementation, and maintenance of field job cost processes.
Train teams on project startup procedures and job cost systems to promote consistency and accuracy.
Offer technical support for the job cost system and provide ongoing training for new and existing staff.
Review and approve budget modifications and contract change orders prior to cost system entry, ensuring data accuracy and compliance.
Audit project quantities and validate data integrity within cost tracking systems.
Facilitate coordination between Business Operations and Project Controls to streamline project execution and reporting.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in construction or infrastructure projects, with a strong foundation in cost management and project financials.
Solid understanding of the application of project controls within the construction environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including advanced functions such as pivot tables and formulas) and demonstrated experience with MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Familiarity with job cost systems and enterprise project management or accounting tools (e.g., JD Edwards, Oracle, CMiC, or equivalent) is a plus.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with consistent follow-through and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Capable of providing guidance and development to stakeholders across both business and project control functions.
Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines and levels within an organization.
Self-motivated and adaptable, with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.

Compensation: The salary range being offered for this position is USD $180,000.00 to $220,000.00. Please note that the salary range listed is specific to the role listed in California. Salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on various factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, and performance.
