General Description: This is a supervisory position that leads the work of skilled, technical staff. The incumbent performs routine tasks to assist in managing the grounds maintenance operations for the county, performs routine tasks to supervise and coordinate the repair and maintenance of equipment, purchase and inventory for the department.

Organization: The incumbent reports to the Maintenance Manager - Grounds and supervises Maintenance Service Technicians and Groundskeepers as assigned.

Essential Functions:

· Maintains clean, safe conditions in shop/service area.

· Assists with developing and maintaining daily operating budget for the Maintenance Division.

· Supervises Maintenance Division staff and daily operations in the absence of the Maintenance Managers.

· Develops and supervises Department safety programs as related to the maintenance shop to comply with state and federal regulations, including ensuring compliance with applicable Safety and Environmental requirements.

· Serves as secondary contact for Safety and Environmental Agencies.

· Oversees regular and preventative maintenance of all equipment/inventory.

· Facilitates training on loading, securing, transporting and operation of all equipment.

· Serves on special Department and County committees, as required.

· Supervises employees, performs related human resources functions and completes necessary paperwork, as required.

· Oversees the procurement, warehousing and issuance of maintenance and repair parts, supplies and materials for equipment including administering appropriate contracts.

· Manages Maintenance Division inventory control system including making necessary purchases, processing invoices, requesting purchase orders, reconciling credit card charges and overseeing deliveries.

· Serves as primary contact for Fleet Services by maintaining vehicle service files for the Parks and Recreation fleet and scheduling all Fleet Services servicing/ repairs.

· Responsible for supervising, scheduling and assisting Department staff with Parks & Recreation controlled repairs and preventative maintenance to the Parks and Recreation equipment fleet.

· Performs routine playground inspections and coordinates and supervises all repairs/ensuring compliance with all CPSC guidelines.

. Coordinates the delivery and pick up of election machines and related equipment with Hanover County Registrar.

· Supervises, coordinates and schedules special projects to include small construction projects, plumbing projects, carpentry projects, sign installation and demolition projects, as necessary.

· Assists in coordinating and implementing snow and ice removal plan for the County.

· Performs related work as assigned.

· Routine lifting of objects up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting of objects up to 75 lbs.

· Must travel to project sites to perform essential functions

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires general mechanical aptitude with ability to make routine repairs to equipment and rebuild small engines. Must be able to set priorities and work independently. Must be proficient in operation of grounds maintenance equipment and power and hand tools. Must have ability to supervise staff to meet deadlines and maintain a safe environment for employees. Requires sound decision-making practices and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written, with County staff, school administration and general public.

Education, Experience and Training: High school diploma or equivalent required with additional training in small engines and mechanics and related experience preferred. Computer literacy required. National Playground Safety Institute Certified Playground Safety Inspector certification preferred OR Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.

Special Conditions:

· Complete Criminal Records Check, including fingerprinting

· Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License

· Pre-employment audiometric testing and hearing conservation and repeated in accordance to policy thereafter

· Twelve month probationary period

· Work beyond normal work schedule

· Must wear uniform, including safety equipment
