Starting Hiring Range: $65,790.82-80,593.75
The purpose of this position is to manage parks maintenance operations by supervising and assisting employees in maintaining and managing parks and associated facilities.
Minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible experience in municipal parks operations, municipal parks maintenance, or athletic field management, including supervisory experience, is required.
Mobility in a field environment with uneven terrain and during inclement weather is required.
Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, being on-call, and attending events or meetings after hours.
This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to FMCSA DOT requirements and random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.
Licenses & Certifications
Certification as a Park and Recreation Professional is preferred.
TDA Pesticide Applicators License required, or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class B Commercial Drivers License, with acceptable driving record as established by the City of Midlothian driving standards, or must obtain within one (1) year of employment.
Work Environment
Work is performed in outdoor climates and a climate-controlled office environment. Exposure to extreme/inclement weather conditions. Physical demands include lifting (up to 50 lbs.), sitting, walking, and standing. Work performed may cause fatigue of eyes and other faculties because of fairly continuous use of motor senses.
The purpose of this position is to manage parks maintenance operations by supervising and assisting employees in maintaining and managing parks and associated facilities.
- Manages the overall maintenance of parks, park facility, and park equipment. This includes managing and maintaining landscapes and turf, athletic fields, irrigation systems, playgrounds, splashpads, courts, and park facilities as well as assisting with special events.
- Supervises assigned employees in parks maintenance and assigns tasks, reviews daily work reports, and schedules employees. Inspects parks and employee work on a routine and regular basis to ensure adequate and preventative maintenance and management is appropriately conducted. This also includes conducting performance reviews and appropriately managing employee performance, as well as assisting with recruiting and managing licensing for assigned employees.
- Monitors, records, and manages playground inspection data.
- Ensures all job functions are performed safely and efficiently.
- Ensures parks are adequately maintained by strategic planning, developing projects and maintenance schedules, to include managing and conducting litter control, mowing, chemical applications, pest control, and all necessary and anticipated maintenance for parks and parks facilities.
- Investigates and documents accidents, graffiti, and vandalism.
- Prepares a variety of statistical, financial, and project reports and conducts various administrative duties.
- Assists with budget preparation and management, including processing and managing receipts and entering requisitions and purchase orders.
- Prepares and procures quotes and bids.
- Develops and manages projects as assigned, which may include reviewing plans and documents for major construction projects.
- Maintains a variety of equipment, tools, and vehicles and ensures they are in working order. This includes managing inventory and facilitating orders for supplies, uniforms for staff, tools, chemicals, and equipment, and ensures necessary items are ordered and ready for use.
- Manages the mowing contract for the City, including parks, City owned property, medians, and right of ways; manages other landscape and construction contracts.
- Participates in planning, organizing, and supervising activities, programs, and special events.
- Assists with park reservations and field rentals by preparing rentals and parks, communicating with department staff members, and occasionally meeting and coordinating with patrons regarding the use of facilities and parks.
- Assists employees with field work as necessary.
- Participates in the evaluations of existing programs and services.
- Provides customer service by resolving problems, evaluating complex and significant variables, and determining results guided by policy and mission statements.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
