Type of Position:
This position will begin as a 12-month contract, with strong potential for long-term employment. While the contract is initially set for 12 months, there is no fixed end date, and extensions beyond the initial term are possible. Conversion to a direct hire role may occur as early as 4 months, depending on individual performance and business needs. Although direct hire is not guaranteed, it is a common outcome for high-performing team members, and most contractors in this role do transition to permanent positions over time.

Wyoming, MI (on site role).
Compensation:
$45.00/hr to $50.00/hr (depending on experience) to start. Overtime is paid at 1.5x over 40 hours. Additionally, any hours worked on a Sunday after reaching 40 total hours for the week will be paid at double time (2.0x).

- Available (medical, dental, 401k, vision, etc) benefit eligibility begins 1st of the month after 30 days of employment.

Job Description:
HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a major automotive manufacturer to hire a Maintenance Supervisor. In this role, were looking for someone to lead a team of 12 to 15 skilled trades professionals (such as electricians, machine repair technicians, toolmakers, pipefitters, and millwrights) within an advanced manufacturing environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring uptime of automated equipment and manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical problem-solving skills, effective leadership capabilities, and prior experience in unionized settings.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervise skilled trades personnel responsible for repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automated machining and furnace equipment, including OD & ID grinders, lathes, and heat treat systems.
- Respond to and manage daily production maintenance needs, including unplanned breakdowns and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Utilize Maximo or similar systems for tracking work orders and maintenance planning.
- Maintain compliance with safety and housekeeping standards as well as National and Local UAW labor agreements.
- Conduct technical assessments, recommend solutions, and ensure all results are communicated effectively.
- Ensure team accountability and demonstrate managerial courage in addressing performance and conduct issues.
- Collaborate across manufacturing and engineering departments to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Uphold Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles and SPQRCE (Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, Environment) performance measures.
Skills, Education, Experience Required:
- High school diploma or GED is required at a minimum.
- Minimum 3 years of manufacturing experience.
- At least 1 year of supervisory experience or 5+ months as a group leader in automotive.
- Skilled trades background with understanding of equipment and repair processes.
- Prior experience in unionized manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in reading electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic blueprints.
- Familiarity with systems such as Maximo (CMMS) and Kronos (timekeeping).
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and conflict resolution skills.
- Comfortable with computers and software including Microsoft Office tools.
Skills, Education, Experience Preferred:
- Experience supervising trades in high-volume, automated manufacturing.
- Knowledge of GMS and lean manufacturing principles.
- Experience coordinating across engineering and operations teams.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to make decisions in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
- High level of integrity and commitment to teamwork.
Work Environment / Other Info:
- This position requires flexibility to work any shift with weekend shifts required (typically 2 weekends on, 1 weekend off). Candidates must be open to all shift schedules (flexibility is essential; this is not a suitable role for candidates seeking standard weekday hours only). Shift times are as follows:
- 1st Shift: 5:15AM 2:00PM
- 2nd Shift: 1:15PM 10:00PM
- 3rd Shift: 10:00PM 6:00AM
- This team typically works 12 hours shifts (give or take).
- This role involves significant overtime. All hours worked beyond 40 in a week will be compensated at 1.5x the regular hourly rate. Additionally, any hours worked on a Sunday after reaching 40 total hours for the week will be paid at double time (2.0x).
- This will be a 100% on site role in Wyoming, MI (Grand Rapids area).
